This lake front lot is very narrow but the designs allows for great views and flooding of natural light from the skylight.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

About Rob Richardson

Spending my childhood in an auto repair shop, owned by my grandparents, I quickly grew to love cars and this interest evolved into drawing garages for the cars. By age ten, I was drawing floorplans of entire homes. As my fascination with design grew, I came to love pushing the boundaries of architecture. I loved the freedom in creation. Getting older, I lost my passion and went down some rough roads battling addiction. After getting sober, I began to rediscover myself. My passion for art, design, and sketching all led me back to school. It was in community college where I decided I wanted more and returned to what I loved architecture. My desire to influence others with the environments they spend time in was strong. The life experiences I have gained through my jagged past only add to the tools I possess and fuel my passion.
Community College became a launching pad for me into the University of Missouri, where I enrolled in the Architectural Studies program. Being a nontraditional student, ready to make a future far better than my past I knew what I wanted and was ready to learn. The studio process has proven challenging, but I get to do something I love, design. The software was new to me. Thanks to skilled professors and supportive peers, I now feel right at home with these tools. Sustainable design was a favorite course. We had the opportunity to compete in The Race to Zero Competition. I have been able to see my studio projects grow each year. I remain teachable and look forward to learning and growing more as a person and designer.
As a graduate I welcome any opportunity to strengthen my skills with first hand experience. I know that by enhancing my software skills, I will open up new possibilities for my designs. I also hope to expand my knowledge of sustainability in the design process. Pushing the boundaries of green design and mastering the LEED principles. I seek to strengthen my foundation and design skills through a Masters in Architecture.
